Nick Muse’s NFL Journey
Muse, 26, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. Despite showing promise in college — including over 800 receiving yards and a standout 131-yard game against Georgia in 2020 — Muse has had a peripatetic professional career. He has spent time with the Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Philadelphia Eagles, including a Super Bowl-winning stint with the Eagles last season.
With just one career reception for 22 yards across six NFL games, Muse arrives in Los Angeles with an opportunity to prove himself on a roster that has increasingly leaned on multiple tight ends.

During his time at South Carolina, Muse earned All-SEC honors in the Covid-shortened 2020 season. Returning from an ACL tear, he totaled 425 receiving yards across just 10 games, highlighted by a 131-yard performance against Georgia — ranking among the top five single-game receiving outputs by a tight end in USC history.
Rams’ Tight End-Heavy Strategy
The Rams currently have four tight ends on their active roster: Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, and rookie Terrance Ferguson. The team has successfully incorporated 13 personnel packages — one running back, three tight ends, and one wide receiver — with impressive results. In Week 10 against San Francisco, the Rams ran 13 personnel on 44.8% of offensive plays.
Muse will join Mark Redman on the practice squad and could see a role emerge if the Rams’ rotation of tight ends encounters injuries or performance issues. Head coach Sean McVay has emphasized versatility and depth at the position, making Muse’s signing a strategic addition rather than a mere roster formality.
While Muse’s impact this season remains uncertain, his arrival provides the Rams with insurance and flexibility as they push toward the playoffs and continue to exploit their tight end-heavy offensive schemes.
