The Los Angeles Rams will face a New Orleans Saints offense that appears to be getting some key reinforcements ahead of Sunday’s Week 9 matchup. Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, making his first NFL start, is expected to have two of the team’s top playmakers at his disposal — running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

Kamara Expected to Suit Up vs the Rams Despite Ankle Issue

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Kamara is “expected to play against the Rams” after being listed as questionable on the final injury report with an ankle injury. The veteran back was limited throughout the week in practice, but his availability gives New Orleans a vital offensive weapon in a game where experience around a rookie quarterback will matter.
Kamara has been quietly productive this season, totaling 363 rushing yards on 100 carries with one touchdown, along with 27 receptions for 147 yards. His dual-threat ability remains essential for the Saints’ rhythm, especially as they continue to battle through offensive inconsistency.
Shaheed Trending Toward Playing After Hip Scare
Rapoport also reported that Rashid Shaheed (hip) is expected to play Sunday despite leaving last week’s loss to Tampa Bay in the fourth quarter. Shaheed returned to practice as a limited participant throughout the week, a positive sign given how valuable his vertical presence has been for the Saints.
Through eight games, Shaheed has recorded 39 catches for 431 yards and two touchdowns, emerging as one of the team’s most explosive options. His availability gives Shough a dynamic downfield target to pair with Chris Olave, helping stretch defenses and create space underneath for Kamara and tight end Juwan Johnson.
A Critical Boost for a Struggling Offense
At 1-7, the Saints’ offense has lacked rhythm, ranking near the bottom of the league in yards per game. Shough’s debut under center presents both uncertainty and opportunity, and having Kamara and Shaheed active could make all the difference in sustaining drives and keeping the Rams’ pass rush honest.
If either player suffers a setback, rookie Devin Neal and veteran Brandin Cooks are expected to take on expanded roles. But for now, New Orleans appears optimistic.
Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX, and with Kamara and Shaheed trending toward full participation, the Saints’ young quarterback may have just enough support to make his debut competitive against a rested Rams defense.
