Rams Share Critical Offensive Line Injury Update Ahead Of Week 9 Saints Clash

The Los Angeles Rams received a welcome boost to their offensive line on Monday as head coach Sean McVay confirmed that veteran right tackle Rob Havenstein is expected to return to practice — and to game action — ahead of Week 9’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Havenstein has missed the Rams’ last three games with an ankle injury suffered in early October. Fortunately for Los Angeles, the team’s Week 8 bye provided much-needed recovery time for both Havenstein and wide receiver Puka Nacua, who also dealt with an ankle issue. “We expect both of those guys to be ready to go,” McVay told reporters Monday, noting that both players will be monitored closely in practice this week.

Before his injury, Havenstein had allowed 11 total pressures across four games, posting a 7.64% pressure rate — meaning he allowed pressure on roughly one of every 13 pass-blocking snaps. That consistency has long defined his role as a dependable veteran anchor for an offensive line that has weathered multiple injuries this season.

In his absence, second-year lineman Warren McClendon has impressed in spot duty. Across three starts, McClendon has allowed just three total pressures on 111 pass-blocking snaps, good for a stellar 2.7% pressure rate — one of the best marks on the team. His play has provided valuable depth and given the Rams added confidence in their tackle rotation.

A Timely Reinforcement

Still, Havenstein’s return brings leadership and experience that can’t be easily replicated. With the Saints’ defensive front among the toughest in the NFC, his presence should help stabilize protection for quarterback Matthew Stafford as Los Angeles looks to build momentum in the second half of the season.
