Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua appears on track to suit up Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers despite a rib injury sustained in last week’s win over the New Orleans Saints.
Head coach Sean McVay confirmed encouraging news after imaging on Nacua’s ribs came back negative. “He should be able to play Sunday at San Francisco,” McVay said, per The Orange County Register’s Adam Grosbard, adding that the second-year receiver will be limited in Wednesday’s practice.
McVay: “Optimistic” About Nacua’s Availability
Nacua exited early in the second half of Sunday’s 31–21 win against New Orleans with what was initially described as a chest injury before McVay clarified it was a rib issue. Speaking to The Los Angeles Times’ Gary Klein on Monday, McVay said he felt “optimistic… in regard to where we’re potentially heading,” signaling that the injury is more precautionary than serious.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter echoed that confidence, writing on X that “Rams HC Sean McVay told reporters that WR Puka Nacua should be good to play Sunday vs. the 49ers despite his rib injury.”

Nacua was outstanding before leaving the game, catching seven passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. He was later seen back on the sidelines with his helmet on, and according to team sources, could have returned to play if needed.
Battling Through Another Setback
The rib issue comes shortly after Nacua returned from a low left ankle sprain suffered against the Baltimore Ravens. Despite the bumps and bruises, he remains one of the league’s most productive young receivers. Through the season’s first half, he has been among the NFL leaders in receptions and yardage, continuing the breakout form that made him a sensation as a rookie.
Rams Eye Crucial Division Matchup
Los Angeles enters Week 10 locked in a tight NFC West race with the 49ers and Seahawks, all sitting on six wins apiece. Having Nacua available would give Matthew Stafford his full arsenal of weapons as the Rams look to maintain momentum on both sides of the ball.
McVay’s optimism—and Nacua’s toughness—suggest the Rams will be close to full strength in a matchup that could shape the division down the stretch.
