Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is set to undergo further evaluation after sustaining a rib injury during Sunday’s 34-10 win over the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Sean McVay provided an update Monday, noting the team remains optimistic.
“I feel optimistic … in regard to where we’re potentially heading,” McVay told reporters, emphasizing that the wideout might not miss any time, according to Gary Klein of The LA Times.

Rams Remain Optimistic About Puka Nacua’s Recovery

Nacua left the game in the second half after taking a hard shot to the midsection. At the time, he had been one of the Rams’ most productive players, hauling in seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown, helping Los Angeles build a 27-10 lead entering the fourth quarter. McVay later noted Nacua could have returned if the score had been closer, suggesting the injury isn’t considered severe.
Through six games in 2025, Nacua has solidified his reputation as one of the league’s brightest young receivers, totaling 54 catches for 616 yards and two touchdowns. Since entering the NFL, the 24-year-old has amassed 238 receptions for 3,092 yards and 11 touchdowns, becoming a key part of McVay’s offense alongside quarterback Matthew Stafford, particularly after Cooper Kupp’s departure.
Nacua’s physical style does leave him vulnerable to injuries. Earlier this season, he missed a game due to an ankle injury sustained against the Baltimore Ravens. Against the Saints, his highlight-reel performance included a fourth-down jet sweep that ended with a crushing hit from linebacker Demario Davis, a play that set up a touchdown but contributed to his rib issue.
“I’m kicking myself about putting him in that spot where he sustained that shot to the ribs,” McVay admitted.
The Rams hope to carry their momentum into a pivotal Week 10 matchup at Levi’s Stadium against the San Francisco 49ers, a contest that could be crucial in shaping the NFC West standings.
