The Los Angeles Rams have reestablished themselves as one of the NFL’s elite in 2025, sitting at 7-2 and tied atop the NFC West. But as they chase another deep playoff run, an even bigger question looms on the horizon — what to do about Puka Nacua.
The third-year wide receiver has become the heart of Los Angeles’ offense, and according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the Rams will soon have to make one of their biggest financial decisions since extending Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald.
“One of the interesting contract extension candidates coming up this offseason that I keep hearing about is Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua,” Graziano reported. “He is wrapping up his third season and is extension-eligible next spring. Nacua was not a first-round pick, so there’s no fifth-year option on his contract, and the Rams likely won’t want him to go into next year as a pending 2027 free agent.”

A fifth-round pick out of BYU in 2023, Nacua’s ascent has been nothing short of meteoric. He shattered rookie records with 105 catches for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns, and he’s only built on that foundation.
Through eight games this season, the 24-year-old already has 66 receptions for 775 yards and four touchdowns — plus a rushing score. He’s proven that his historic debut wasn’t a fluke but a preview of his long-term ceiling.
“Nacua’s outstanding production and his significant role in the Rams’ offense put him in line for a top-of-market wide receiver deal,” Graziano added, noting that the top of that market is currently Ja’Marr Chase at $40.25 million per year and Justin Jefferson at $35 million.
Wilson’s Mega-Deal Changes Everything

The receiver market, already soaring, just got more complicated. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Jets wideout Garrett Wilson agreed to a four-year, $130 million extension with $90 million guaranteed — a staggering deal for a third-year player.
That contract effectively sets the floor for Nacua’s next negotiation. Even though Wilson had a fifth-year option as a first-round pick, the Jets moved early, and the Rams could soon follow suit.
Spotrac estimates Nacua’s market value at around $36.5 million annually, making him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in football.
At that rate, Nacua’s next deal would likely fall in the four-year, $150–$165 million range, with up to $120 million guaranteed — right alongside Chase, Jefferson, and CeeDee Lamb.
How the Rams Can Afford It
Fortunately for Los Angeles, their financial outlook is unusually flexible. The Rams are projected to have over $87 million in cap space by 2026 and more than $200 million by 2027, giving general manager Les Snead the freedom to prioritize Nacua.
Matthew Stafford’s contract runs through 2026, which aligns perfectly with the team’s short-term contention window. Beyond that, the Rams’ cap sheet clears significantly, making a Nacua extension not just possible, but essential.
LA also holds two first-round picks this spring — young, cost-controlled players who will balance out a major deal for Nacua.
Focus on the Present, Eyes on the Future

Despite the talk about contracts and dollar figures, Nacua insists he’s not letting it distract him from the field.
“I try to do my best to stay completely present where my feet are,” Nacua said at training camp. “It’s exciting to see guys push the envelope for the wide receiver game… it’s super exciting for sure.”
That focus is paying off. With Davante Adams drawing coverage and Stafford playing at an MVP level, Nacua continues to put up All-Pro numbers. The Rams’ offense runs through him — and everyone in the league knows it.
The Bottom Line
For all of Sean McVay’s creative genius and Stafford’s veteran precision, the Rams’ future now hinges on one truth: you don’t let a generational receiver walk out the door.
Puka Nacua’s next contract won’t just shape Los Angeles’ salary cap — it’ll define the franchise’s identity for the next decade.
If the Rams want to stay among the NFL’s elite, they’ll have to prove it by keeping their biggest star right where he belongs — in horns.
