Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has already produced like a superstar, yet he remains one of the league’s most underappreciated players. ESPN’s Seth Walder went as far as to predict that Nacua could lead the NFL in receiving yards this season, highlighting just how efficient the 23-year-old has been when healthy.
“It’s hard to stress just how efficient Nacua was last season: His 3.7 yards per route run last year are the second most by any receiver in the past decade (behind Tyreek Hill in 2023) — even ahead of Cooper Kupp’s monstrous 2021 season (3.2). The biggest question in this case might simply be whether Stafford can stay healthy long enough to get his receiver there,” Walder wrote.

Nacua’s brilliance is even more impressive when considering he played much of last season with a lingering knee injury. He aggravated the issue against Detroit, missed five games, and still managed to post 990 yards and three touchdowns. The wideout averaged nearly 100 yards per game during stretches when healthy, proving he’s among the NFL’s most dynamic pass catchers.
For the first time in his young career, Nacua enters Week 1 fully healthy. Rams broadcasters J.B. Long and D’Marco Farr confirmed on their “Between the Horns” podcast that Nacua has put his knee problems behind him, saying, “It’s the first time he gets to Week 1 healthy.” That’s a scary thought for defenses across the NFC West.
The Puka Cycle

Still, questions about durability remain. Analyst Daniel Kelley of FTN described what he calls the “Puka Cycle”:
“Puka’s great. Puka’s hurt. Everything sucks. It’s not as bad as we thought. Puka’s great. Repeat.”
Unlike players plagued by bad luck, Nacua’s ultra-physical style — contested catches, fearless yards-after-catch runs — exposes him to more hits. He dealt with multiple injuries in college and missed six games in 2024. For the Rams to maximize their Super Bowl window, they’ll need to manage his workload carefully.
Unlocking the Next Level

To ease that burden, Adams’ arrival is critical. Head coach Sean McVay has already seen Nacua soaking up knowledge from the veteran, while general manager Les Snead emphasized that the Rams don’t expect Nacua to carry the offense alone.
Even so, when Nacua is on the field, he’s a game-changer. He broke rookie records in 2023, averaged nearly 22 PPR fantasy points per game during his 10 healthiest starts last year, and has already earned comparisons to Larry Fitzgerald for his early career production.
If Nacua stays healthy in 2025, he isn’t just underrated anymore — he could be the league’s leading receiver and the key to a Rams Super Bowl run.
