Rams CB With ‘Weird, Freak’ Injury Status Unclear After Latest Update

Brock Vierra of Rams on SI reported Wednesday that Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided updates on several injured starters, noting that “Puka Nacua, Rob Havenstein, Kamren Kinchens, and Darious Williams will be limited.” McVay added that Nacua and Havenstein are “still set to play,” and that Kinchens “appears to be trending towards playing as well.”

The most concerning update centers on veteran cornerback Darious Williams, who suffered what McVay described as a “weird, freak” shoulder injury late in the Week 7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“It’s almost like a strain in his shoulder and in his lat,” McVay explained. “It’s kind of an abnormal deal that typically – it’s a very abnormal type of injury, but it is something that you need to be cognizant of and certain movements and things that we’re asked to do, especially from the corner spot, where it does kind of just trigger it.”

Williams used the Week 8 bye to rehab the injury, and the team plans to monitor his progress closely ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints. McVay emphasized that the “doors [are] open for him going this week,” though the staff has contingency plans in place should Williams be unavailable.

Rams Add Depth With McCreary Trade

Coinciding with Williams’ injury, Los Angeles moved swiftly to strengthen its secondary, trading with the Tennessee Titans for cornerback Roger McCreary. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams sent a conditional fifth/sixth-round pick swap to Tennessee.

McCreary brings immediate depth and flexibility to a defense that continues to evolve under McVay. His arrival ensures that even if Williams misses time, the Rams remain equipped to stay competitive in a tightly contested NFC West race.
