The Los Angeles Rams head into their Week 8 bye tied atop the NFC West at 5–2, looking every bit like a Super Bowl contender on offense. Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams have led one of the league’s most efficient passing attacks, while Kyren Williams has added balance on the ground.
But even as Sean McVay’s offense hums, the team’s secondary remains its biggest vulnerability. Behind one of the NFL’s most disruptive fronts — featuring Kobie Turner, Byron Young, Poona Ford, Braden Fiske, and Jared Verse — the cornerback room has struggled to match that dominance.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Rams are “making calls for a corner,” joining a competitive market that includes the Ravens, Colts, and Lions.

Rams Among Several Teams Targeting Cornerback Help

This Puka-Flex T-Shirt Is Illegal In Philly
Los Angeles currently relies on a rotation of Decobie Durant, Darius Williams, Emmanuel Forbes, Tre Brown, and Josh Wallace, with veteran Ahkello Witherspoon still working back from injury. While the group has held its own, it lacks the kind of shutdown presence needed for a deep postseason run.
Russini’s report underscores the urgency in Los Angeles. With Stafford’s future uncertain and a legitimate shot at another Lombardi Trophy, general manager Les Snead is expected to be aggressive. The Rams are one of the few contenders with two first-round picks to leverage — a luxury that could help them land a true difference-maker.
Potential Trade Targets Emerging
Across the league, several cornerbacks are believed to be available. The Jets’ Michael Carter II and Titans’ Roger McCreary are both viewed as realistic trade options, while other names like Cam Taylor-Britt of the Bengals and Alontae Taylor of the Saints could also draw interest.
Taylor-Britt, just 26, was recently benched despite tallying seven interceptions across his past two seasons, and may benefit from a change of scenery. Taylor, meanwhile, has allowed just 5.5 yards per target this year and could slot in as an immediate starter opposite Williams.
Snead and McVay Eye Familiar Formula
The Rams have been here before. Their 2021 Super Bowl run was fueled by midseason trades for Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr., both of whom made critical contributions. With the 2025 trade deadline approaching on Nov. 4, history could repeat itself — and Los Angeles once again looks ready to go all in.
