Rams RB Now Questionable to Return vs. Falcons

The Los Angeles Rams were dealt an in-game injury concern in the first half of their Week 17 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, as running back Blake Corum exited with an apparent leg injury in the second quarter.

Corum went down after a carry and was visibly hobbled as he made his way to the sideline. Medical staff attended to him immediately, and his discomfort was evident as he exited the field.

Before leaving the game, Corum logged six carries for 18 yards, continuing to play a meaningful role in the Rams’ backfield rotation.

Injury Update: Corum’s Status in Question

The Rams later announced that Corum is questionable to return with an ankle injury. He was eventually taken to the locker room for further evaluation, and while the team has yet to provide additional clarity, his chances of returning appeared increasingly slim as the game progressed.

For a Rams offense that relies on balance and efficiency, Corum’s status matters — not just for this game, but for how Los Angeles manages its backfield heading into the postseason.

A Backfield Built on Balance

Through 15 games this season, the Rams have leaned on a true one-two punch at running back.

Kyren Williams remains the clear lead option, handling the bulk of the workload both as a runner and receiver. Corum, meanwhile, has carved out a complementary role — one defined by efficiency and explosiveness.

2025 Regular Season Production

  • Kyren Williams
    • 234 carries, 1,100 yards, 10 rushing TDs
    • 4.70 yards per carry
    • 30 receptions, 222 yards, 3 receiving TDs
  • Blake Corum
    • 126 carries, 669 yards, 6 rushing TDs
    • 5.31 yards per carry
    • 7 receptions, 26 yards

Williams has averaged 15.6 carries per game, functioning as the engine of the offense. Corum, at 8.4 carries per game, has been used more selectively — but with notable impact.

Where Corum Separates Himself: Explosivity

While Williams supplies volume and physicality, Corum has quietly emerged as the Rams’ most explosive runner.

Despite having 108 fewer carries, Corum has produced more big plays across nearly every threshold:

  • 10+ yard runs: Corum (22) | Williams (21)
  • 15+ yard runs: Corum (9) | Williams (7)
  • 20+ yard runs: Corum (4) | Williams (3)
  • Explosive run rate (10+ yards):
    • Corum: 17.46%
    • Williams: 8.97%
  • Longest run:
    • Corum: 48 yards
    • Williams: 34 yards

Corum is generating explosive gains at nearly double the rate of Williams, a reflection of his burst, vision, and ability to capitalize on space.

Williams, by contrast, derives more of his production through contact. A greater percentage of his yardage comes after initial hits, underscoring his role as a grinder who sustains drives rather than flips the field.

Team Impact When Corum Is Featured

The Rams’ success when Corum is more involved has been striking — albeit in a smaller sample.

In games where Corum has received 10 or more carries, Los Angeles is 5–1, averaging 39.0 points per game. With Williams as the primary ball carrier, the Rams are still highly effective (11–4 record), but the offense tilts toward steadier efficiency rather than explosive output.

Together, the two backs give the Rams flexibility: Williams sets the tone, Corum changes the math.

Why Corum’s Health Matters

Williams remains the foundation of the Rams’ rushing attack, but Corum’s ability to generate chunk plays adds a dimension few teams possess off the bench. His injury — even if short-term — would narrow the offense’s margin for error, particularly against playoff-caliber defenses.

As the Rams look ahead to January, maintaining that balance could be just as important as getting Corum back on the field.

For now, his status remains uncertain — and so does the shape of Los Angeles’ backfield for the rest of Week 17.
