The Los Angeles Rams received encouraging news on Thursday as rookie running back Blake Corum returned to practice in a limited capacity after missing Wednesday’s session due to an ankle injury. According to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio, Corum’s participation is “a step in the right direction” as the Rams prepare for Sunday’s early kickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Corum Trending Up For Jaguars, But Role Still Limited
Corum suffered an ankle injury in last week’s win over the Baltimore Ravens and was initially a non-participant to start the week. His ability to practice on Thursday suggests improvement, though Friday’s session will likely determine whether he’s cleared to play overseas.
Even if available, Corum is expected to remain in a reserve role behind lead back Kyren Williams. Through six games, the Michigan product has logged 156 rushing yards on 29 carries with one touchdown, while adding three catches for nine yards. His usage has been sporadic — including just six offensive snaps and one carry in the Week 5 loss to the 49ers — but his return would add depth to a backfield thin on reliable options.

Los Angeles continues to rely heavily on Williams, who has handled 82 carries through five games but has also battled inconsistencies and turnovers. His late fumble against San Francisco cost the Rams a chance to steal a road win in overtime, further exposing how fragile the running back rotation has become.
Corum’s injury only magnified those concerns, with rookie Jarquez Hunter serving as the emergency option last week. As Bjorn Bergstrom of PFSN noted, “The Rams need to capitalize while quarterback Matthew Stafford is still on the roster, making a move at running back well worth making.”
Nick Chubb Trade Buzz Adds Intrigue
Amid Corum’s uncertain status, speculation continues to swirl around a potential trade for Houston Texans running back Nick Chubb. Chubb, who has impressed in his first year with Houston — tallying 249 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 58 carries — could provide the Rams with the physicality and reliability their offense has lacked.
General manager Nick Caserio recently praised Chubb’s instincts and balance, saying, “He’s very instinctive. He’s got good vision. There haven’t been a lot of negative runs with him on the field.”
For LA, a move for Chubb would lighten Williams’ workload and give head coach Sean McVay a proven between-the-tackles threat. As the team travels to London for a critical Week 7 matchup, Corum’s progress — and the front office’s next move — will shape how the Rams approach the second half of their season.
