Los Angeles Rams Controversial WR Gets New One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Rams continue to stay busy before the new league year begins. After locking down Matthew Stafford and Alaric Jackson and trading Jonah Jackson, Les Snead and Co. have put pen to paper for another pending free agent.

Former 2nd-round NFL Draft pick Tutu Atwell will remain with the Rams after signing a one-year deal worth $10 million that is fully guaranteed, $5 million at signing and a $5 million base.

Controversial might be a bit of a strong word, but Atwell’s time with the Rams has certainly been hotly debated amongst fans.

The Rams used their 1st pick (2nd rounder) in the 2021 NFL Draft to select him, and the expectation was high. He brought a speed that the offense had been lacking, and the hope was that he would be able to blow the top off of defenses.

Unfortunately, we have seen this dimension in spurts but never on a consistent basis.

With receivers like Nico Collins and Amon-Ra St. Brown drafted in later rounds, many will always question the decision to draft Atwell.

However, Atwell did produce the best season of his career last year. He garnered 42 catches and 562 yards, demonstrating his ability to separate when given the opportunity.

With LA poised to move on from Cooper Kupp and a legal issue potentially keeping Demarcus Robinson from being re-signed, Atwell should see his role increase within the offense even more. This one-year deal will be a prove-it situation to cash in on his third contract.

Atwell is the first and only member of the 2021 Draft Class to sign a second contract with the Rams. Bobby Brown III still has the opportunity to do so, but everyone else in the class has either been cut or traded.
