Los Angeles Rams Reportedly Release Former USC Trojans Pass Rusher

We are less than two hours away from the Los Angeles Rams and the rest of the NFL announcing their final cuts and their 53-man rosters heading into the season. One player who is reportedly on the chopping block is former USC Trojans EDGE and 2025 UDFA Jamil Muhammad.

According to Blaine Grisak of SB Nation, the Rams plan to waive Muhammad with the hope of bringing him back onto the practice squad.

Los Angeles Rams Plan To Waive Former USC Trojans EDGE Jamil Muhammad

After walking onto the Los Angeles Rams after the 2025 NFL Draft, Muhammad was going to have a tough time making the 53-man roster with how deep the EDGE position is. It is a position that the Rams would likely only keep four players, and even three was/is a possibility.

Former Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse and 2nd year standout Byron Young are locks. You also have to think that 2025 third-round pick, Josiah Stewart out of Michigan, is a lock as well.

The Rams did announce yesterday that they were releasing 2024 draft pick Brennan Jackson, but that still leaves Nate Hampton to compete with.

Muhammad had a really nice preseason and is a player who could really develop on the Rams’ practice squad if he makes it through waivers. He finished with 4 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in the preseason.

Muhammad transferred to the USC Trojans in the spring of 2023 after playing his first three years of collegiate ball at Georgia State. He immediately became one of the team’s vocal leaders and one of the top pass rushers on the team.

In his final season with the Trojans, he finished with 27 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, and 3 QB hurries.
