Los Angeles Rams RB Coach Delivers Impression Of Kyren Williams As Star Suffers Setback

Kyren Williams has morphed into a Rorschach test. Some Los Angeles Rams fans look at his impressive 2024 production of 1,299 yards and 14 touchdowns in awe. Others can’t get over his eight fumbles over the past two seasons. As it stands, the NFL top 100 list appears to have cooled slightly on the running back.

According to Rams Wire in a July 10 post, the running back ranked No. 78 in the NFL’s top 100 list, going into last season. This year, he slipped to No. 85. While it is an honor to make the list and while the running back has managed to tread water in the grand scheme of things, essentially, the setback is a rational reason for worry.

Of course, for Williams, the opinions of fans and most of his colleagues don’t directly impact his life. However, the views of his coaches do. One of his coaches recently gave his impressions on the running back. Speaking to Rams media on July 8, Rams RB coach Ron Gould gave his thoughts on the back.

“The first thing that stood out to us was his explosiveness,” Gould said. “… One of the things (I noticed) was just his ability to stay grounded through some of his runs that was really, really evident in the work that he’s put in, so really, really pleased with that.”

So, despite some fans expressing less excitement about Williams heading into 2025, Gould appears to be in the running back’s corner. He’s going to need all of the support he can get to hit a new level in the coming season.

Exploring What Needs To Happen for Kyren Williams To Put NFL 100 Ranking To Shame

Kyren Williams appears to be putting in the work on his end, but it’s going to take more than that for him to take a step forward this year. Above all, he needs Sean McVay in his corner and willing to make him the bellcow back once again.

With the addition of rookie Jarquez Hunter with the Rams’ third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it’s clear they placed a priority on adding something to the running back room. If he takes away carries from Williams, it will be much tougher for him to hit a new level in 2025.

Even if McVay’s motivation is to hope to avoid running Williams into the ground, it could essentially cap his ability to produce.

Williams will also need an intact and productive offensive line, which already has been hit with a curveball due to Alaric Jackson’s blood clot situation.

Put simply, Williams needs multiple factors to line up in his favor. If the backfield becomes a committee in 2025 and the offensive line can’t open up the same holes as in 2024, it would seemingly be the death of the impressive production he’s been able to put on display in 2023 and 2024.

Can Kyren Williams deliver massive numbers in arguably the biggest year of his career?
