Are The Rams In Trouble? Week 1 NFC West Power Rankings

The Los Angeles Rams division, the NFC West, unlike its AFC West counterpart, is wide open in 2025. A case could be made either way for any of the division’s four franchises. Whether it’s one team’s overhaul that could change everything or another entrenched team finally running out of juice, the 2025 NFC West is like an ambiguous cloud in the sky.

However, after carefully studying it for a short time, its shape will become clear. Here’s a look at where the Los Angeles Rams fit into the grand scheme of things in the NFC West.

#1 – San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a season not unlike the Philadelphia Eagles after they lost their Super Bowl to Patrick Mahomes.

The Eagles, after losing to the Chiefs in 2022, were effectively irrelevant in the playoffs the following year. In the 2024-25 season, they jumped back on top in decisive fashion.

That doesn’t mean the 49ers are going back to the Super Bowl, but they are a force to be respected.

The team is back to full health in the most important areas for at least one more run around the league with Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Brock Purdy.

With the desperate need to wash the taste of 2024 out of their mouths, the team is set to pull out every stop this season. However, they might also find themselves lucky to be in a division in which things could line up swimmingly for them separately from their newly reborn all-in hunger.

#2 – Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are littered with questions. Will Kyren Williams continue to struggle with his increasing fumble troubles? Will Davante Adams be able to deliver at pace despite taking another step deeper into his 30s? Can Puka Nacua return to his nearly perfect breakout rookie season? Above all, will Matthew Stafford’s health hold the Rams back?

Offensive tackle Alaric Jackson’s health could be tied directly to Stafford’s, as any absence could leave the pass rush to hit the seemingly less than 100% quarterback in his weak spot (Jackson appears healthy at the moment).

On the defensive side of the ball, there are enough questions regarding the secondary that any problems offensively could spell trouble. That said, other teams have it worse than the Rams, and as such, even a nine-win season is likely to be enough to keep the team in the top half of the NFC West.

#3 – Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals, on paper, are in the most predictable situation in the league with much of the roster returning from 2024. As such, expect similar results in the form of a sub-.500 season with a few bright moments.

Kyler Murray has never won a playoff game or hoisted a division title. Until he does, he can sit comfortably near the bottom of the leaderboard as he counts his millions.

One wild card is Marvin Harrison Jr., who is looking to take the league by storm in his second season after nearly netting 1,000 yards and double-digit touchdowns in his rookie season. That said, the deck is stacked against him leading the franchise out of its decade-long funk.

#4 – Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off the heist of the century in how they traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

However, Broncos fans might recall what happened when they landed Case Keenum after an unlikely Cinderella story that led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship in the 2017-18 season. Spoiler alert: Denver went 6-10 with a stacked defense and plenty of pieces from their Super Bowl 50 squad.

The Seahawks don’t have the same luxury as that Broncos squad.

As such, history might have repeated itself for a second time. If that’s the case, expect the DK Metcalf-less Seahawks to meet a cold dose of reality, taking them out of the running entirely.

Head coach Mike Macdonald’s scheme is also out in the open after losing the element of surprise he had coming into his rookie coaching season in 2024.
