Los Angeles Rams Share Matthew Stafford Injury Status For Cowobys Joint Practice

The Los Angeles Rams already knew they were heading into the 2025 season playing a dangerous game, that is to say, trotting out a 37-year-old quarterback with more than his fair share of bumps and bruises. As training camp came up, it was revealed that that quarterback, Matthew Stafford, was dealing with back soreness. Little clarity has been given, as Sean McVay attempts deliberately to keep the severity under wraps.

After Saturday’s practice, Coach McVay was yet again asked for specificity about Stafford’s timeline — specifically, if he would practice Sunday or in the team’s two joint practices.

“Don’t think so. You know, it would be week to week, but probably not.”

A follow-up: At what point during the week are you guys just evaluating to see when he’ll be ready?

“Week to week. I don’t know,” McVay said. “I wish I could help you out more with that.”

That has been the company line McVay has towed since Stafford’s first setback during the first week of training camp

Another follow-up from intrepid LA Times reporter Gary Klein: “With Stafford, is there any way you, given how he’s not practiced, that he would participate in joint practices with the Cowboys or the Chargers?

“The Cowboys, I would say that’s less than likely. With the Chargers, you know, and I know I’m probably irritating you guys, but it truly is a week-to-week thing, and what I don’t want to do is set a timeline. I know he’s making good progress. [Stafford] saw Dr. Watkins again today. Everything is in good shape. But to answer your question, Gary, the Cowboys is a no, and then, you know, we’ll see about the Chargers.

So, in terms of severity, nothing more was relayed. Stafford and team VP sports medicine and performance, Reggie Scott, have been working with leading specialist Dr. Robert Watkins for at least a week. At the very least, we have a rough timeline. Stafford will not likely see practice time until after the Cowboys’ joint practice on August 5th and maybe on August 13th when they meet with the Chargers.

Is Sean McVay irritating anyone? Likely, only Rams fans desperately want to know if they should expect Stafford to be ready for Week 1 or if they should get excited for the Jimmy Garoppolo show.
