While the Los Angeles Rams’ offseason will be a tumultuous one, with the future of Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford in question, they have already made it clear about the future of another offensive weapon.
On Friday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic posted on social media that when it comes to extending Williams, the “Rams will be open to discussing what a Kyren Williams early extension would look like this offseason. “He’s a Ram” ([a] phrase they use for heartbeat players).”
Los Angeles Rams Committed To Kyren Williams

Earlier that morning Rams general manager Les Snead communicated a similar message.
“I think [an extension is] something that’s going to be on the plate,” Snead added. “[Williams] would be someone that after three years you could begin discussing, let’s call it, renegotiating, starting anew. Because I do think Kyren is someone who is a Ram and has a very impactful role for us.”
Of course, this is a major announcement from the club considering that they will be dealing with the contracts of Kupp and Stafford, in addition to tight end Tyler Higbee and right tackle Rob Havenstein. Not only that, but Snead is not the type to tip his hand in negotiations with former draft picks.

Just before the 2024 season, Snead traded linebacker, Ernest Jones, rather than extending the 2021 3rd-round draft pick. Furthermore, he has only extended a handful of draft picks as a GM.
The potential extension of Williams would mark a significant departure from the Rams’ recent approach to the running back position. Since releasing Todd Gurley in early 2020, the team has primarily relied on a combination of rookie contracts, like Cam Akers, and short-term veteran signings, such as the addition of Sony Michel in 2021.
Williams has claimed Los Angeles’ starting running back role over the past two years, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 and tallying 316 carries for 1,299 yards (4.1 yards per carry) and 16 combined touchdowns in 2024.
