Before being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, Jared Verse was a Florida State Seminole. It was there that he forged a relationship with his teammate, quarterback Jordan Travis. On Wednesday morning, Travis announced that he was retiring from the NFL, citing the lingering effects of a severe leg injury sustained during an undefeated 2023 season with Florida State. According to the announcement made on Wednesday, the player’s surgically repaired left leg has not fully recovered, and this decision was reached following medical advice.
“On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn,” Travis said in a statement. “I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”
In response, Verse took to social media to offer his love and support to Travis.
“Not many people love the game of football the way you do. Watching this chapter close hurts, but seeing the strength, heart, and grace you’ve shown through it all makes me even prouder to call you my brother. I’ll never get to sack you like I always dreamed, but I’ll always be in your corner. Love you, and I can’t wait to see where life takes you next.”
Los Angeles Rams: Jared Verse Forged Relationship With Jordan Travis At Florida State

Jared Verse’s arrival at Florida State ahead of the 2022 season, following his transfer from Albany, was initially marked by a period of adjustment. As Jordan Travis acknowledged, Verse’s strong personality led to some initial friction.
“Jared Verse from the first day,” Travis said at the 2023 ACC Football Kickoff. “Not everyone liked Jared Verse the first day he came in. He’s a loud guy. The work ethic he has, it just makes you love a guy like that. Because no matter what, he talks a lot but he backs it up every single time.”
However, his subsequent performance on the field quickly dispelled any reservations.
“We are so blessed to have him back,” Travis said, when he learned Verse would return to the team in 2023. “Just another leader for this football team and obviously a great playmaker. I’m so glad he’s on our team and we’re not facing him. He’s a special player.”
