Los Angeles Rams GM Describes Brutal Month Which Nearly Derailed High Aspirations

The early stages of the 2025 offseason saw a period of uncertainty surrounding the relationship between the Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford. The team’s decision to permit Stafford’s representatives to explore potential trade options with other teams, coupled with rumors of his possible departure, created an atmosphere of tension.

However, a resolution was eventually reached, with both sides agreeing to a new contract that would keep Stafford in Los Angeles. This decision brought an end to what Rams general manager Les Snead described as a “grueling month.” Snead explained to ESPN’s Pat McAfee that the decision to continue their partnership stemmed from a shared desire to pursue a championship.

“At the end of the day, everyone — Matthew, his family, Sean [McVay], our coaching staff, myself, our organization — we all realized … we really wanna take on this journey together,” Snead said, “and it was, let’s call it ‘cool’ to rekindle our relationship, get rejuvenated to chase greatness.”

Since joining the Rams in 2021, Stafford has significantly elevated the team’s performance. His impact was immediately felt as the Rams won a Super Bowl in his first season. The team has also reached the playoffs in three of his four seasons. While Stafford’s future with the Rams remains on a year-to-year basis, his presence provides the team with a clear path to contention, offering a more stable option than searching for a replacement.
