Los Angeles Rams Meeting With Aggressive Defensive Tackle Ahead Of NFL Draft

Focusing on their continued efforts to identify promising talent for the upcoming season, the Los Angeles Rams were among the numerous NFL teams recently hosting Texas A&M defensive lineman Shemar Turner for a pre-draft visit. This visit, reported by KPRC2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson, occurred after Turner participated in Texas A&M’s Pro Day.

The Rams have been proactively building their defensive line through the draft over the last two years. They added Poona Ford as a free agent this offseason to fill the need as a run stopper. Turner could be a long-term solution after Ford becomes a free agent after the 2026 season.

Turner, a product of DeSoto High School and a member of Jimbo Fisher’s 2021 recruiting class, showcased his potential throughout his collegiate career, establishing himself as an intriguing prospect who could be selected in the mid-rounds of the upcoming draft.

The former four-star recruit registered his most productive season as a junior in 2023, amassing 33 tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles, earning him Second-Team All-SEC honors.

While Turner’s statistical output decreased slightly in his senior year, with 36 tackles but fewer quarterback pressures resulting in two sacks and one forced fumble, his physical attributes remain appealing.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 290 pounds, coupled with his demonstrated ability to effectively stop the run, could make him a valuable addition on Day 2 or early Day 3 of the draft for a team like the Rams looking to bolster their defensive front.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranked Turner as the 56th best prospect in the NFL Draft, writing Much will be made of Turner’s “overaggressive” tendencies that draw attention from officials. But as one scout described him, “he’s the type (of player) you want on your side.”

Turner needs to introduce more discipline to his play style, but he prides himself on being the aggressor and relies on his initial twitch, fierce hands and combative mentality to be a factor.
