Los Angeles Rams Depth Will Be Tested After Latest Injury Update

The Los Angeles Rams escaped Sunday with a 14-9 victory over the Houston Texans. Unfortunately, they did not escape unscathed, as they suffered a few injuries. Nothing came out as major, but a few players are at risk of missing this week’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

The majority of the Rams’ offensive line has been on the injury report all week as LG Steve Avila, RG Kevin Dotson, and RT Rob Havenstein were all dealing with ankle injuries, although head coach Sean McVay did say that Havenstein’s designation was more related to veteran rest.

Tight End Colby Parkinson has also been on the injury report, dealing with a shoulder injury.

Ahead of traveling to Nashville, the Rams have listed both Steve Avila and Colby Parkinson as DOUBTFUL; however, Kevin Dotson will be good to go.

Los Angeles Rams Could Be Without Steve Avila And Colby Parkinson

While the doubtful designation does not mean the player is out, very rarely, especially this early in the season, will a player actually suit up. So at this point, I would expect both Avila and Parkinson to be out.

This means that the Rams’ depth will get its first true test of the season. 2nd-year swing interior offensive lineman Beaux Limmer went in for Avila during Week 1 and played a good amount of snaps (44 per PFF). While it wasn’t perfect, he did receive a 70.7 overall blocking grade, but his pass blocking grade was an abysmal 27.6.

Protecting Matthew Stafford is of the utmost importance, so it will be interesting to see if they roll with Limmer as the starter this week, or try out the likes of veteran David Quessenberry, or 2nd-year former USC Trojans C/G Justin Dedich.

Either way, the Los Angeles Rams will need to employ support on the left side with their running backs in pass blocking.

Colby Parkinson played 29 snaps in Week 1 before leaving the game with an injury. Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen will take the majority share of these extra snaps, but we should see the first regular-season action from rookie Terrance Ferguson.

With the talent that the Titans have on the defensive front, hopefully Sean McVay will scheme a more run-heavy approach to take the pressure off of the offensive line and Matthew Stafford.

We will provide any new injury updates as we receive them.
