The Los Angeles Rams have orchestrated an impressive offensive overhaul this offseason, highlighted by the acquisition of Davante Adams, adding another layer of star power to their already potent attack.
However, concerns linger on the defensive side of the ball, where the team currently lacks the same level of established firepower. Recognizing this imbalance, there remains an opportunity for the Rams to bolster their defense by targeting impactful free agents still available on the market.
Should The Los Angeles Rams Sign The Veteran Safety?

In this context, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has identified the Rams as a potential suitor for star safety Justin Simmons. Simmons established himself as a premier defensive back during his time in Denver under Vic Fangio, where his exceptional range and instincts made him an indispensable player for the Broncos.
Barnwell notes Simmons’s remarkable ability to generate turnovers, stating that he forced 33 turnovers between 2017 and 2023, the most of any player in the league over that seven-year span. While acknowledging occasional issues with missed tackles and the benefit of playing alongside another talented safety in Jessie Bates last season, Barnwell emphasizes the undeniable value of Simmons’ extensive experience in a critical defensive role.
Interestingly, Barnwell suggests that the Rams might face competition from the Philadelphia Eagles in the pursuit of Simmons. “I was surprised when the Eagles didn’t add Simmons last year, and he has admitted in recent weeks that he’d love to play for the Eagles,” Barnwell writes, highlighting Simmons’ expressed interest in joining Philadelphia.
With the Eagles recently trading away C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a void has opened up in their secondary alongside Reed Blankenship, potentially creating an ideal opportunity for Simmons to fulfill his stated desire.
Justin Simmons’ credentials speak for themselves. A four-time All-Pro selection, he also led the entire NFL in interceptions in 2022, showcasing his ball-hawking abilities. On a Rams defense that is currently lacking in both veteran leadership and established stars, the addition of a player of Simmons’ caliber would be a significant acquisition, potentially transforming the unit and providing the experience and playmaking ability they desperately need.
