The Los Angeles Chargers new regime parted ways with veteran wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams last offseason, only to bring Williams back one year later. With the team still seemingly in need of more depth at wide receiver, many in Los Angeles have been hoping for a reunion.
However, senior NFL insider Jeremy Fowler wrote for ESPN.com that he doesn’t ‘get the sense’ that the Chargers front office is ‘eager’ to add at wide receiver through free agency. The club has no plans to change course right now, really liking its young pass-catchers.

Keenan Allen Reunion With Los Angeles Chargers Seems Unlikely
From 2017-2023 in Los Angeles, Allen averaged 98 receptions and 1,130 receiving yards per season while earning six Pro Bowl selections. He even delivered a career-best season in 2023, but the new regime of head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz opted to trade him.
Entering 2025, Allen ranks second in franchise history for receiving yards behind Antonio Gates (11,841), second in receptions (905), and third in touchdowns. If he returned to Los Angeles, he would have a legitimate shot at overtaking Gates (955) for the most receptions in club history.

In his last season with the Chargers, Allen played in 13 games and hauled in 108 receptions for 1,243 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. While he set a career-high in receiving yards per game (95.6), he was traded to the Chicago Bears for a 2024 fourth-round pick. Last year, Allen played in 15 games and totaled 70 receptions for 744 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns with Chicago.
There’s been minimal NFL news about Allen since the offseason. Teams waited until after the 2025 NFL Draft to sign some veterans, not wanting those additions to factor into the compensatory-pick formula for 2026. He previously told reporters that he eyed three teams in NFL free agency – the Bears, Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams – but the 33-year-old might now need to consider additional teams to find a home.

As for the Chargers, they are prepared to move forward with a three-receiver set of Williams, Ladd McConkey, and rookie Tre Harris. McConkey will be Justin Herbert‘s go-to weapon, but the organization has high expectations for Harris becoming an impact contributor in 2025.
