Chargers GM Accidentally Hints At Keenan Allen Return

General manager Joe Hortiz might have revealed his plans to re-sign veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Los Angeles Chargers.

One Last Run For Keenan Allen?

Going on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, Hortiz mentioned that he “has had some communication with Keenan’s representation” and that “the door’s not closed” on a possible return.

The 13-year veteran has been at the pinnacle of his position, making his mark as a reliable target who can create separation.

Coming off a down year with the Chicago Bears, Allen looked a lot more comfortable catching passes from franchise quarterback Justin Herbert. Allen led the NFL with 34 catches on third down, signaling his reliability in crucial situations.

Allen finished the 2025 season with 81 catches, 777 receiving yards, and 4 TD’s. Allen also became the all-time reception leader (985) for the Chargers, surpassing a record previously held by former teammate and Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates.

Chargers Youth Movement At Wide Receiver

With a young nucleus of wide receivers currently on the roster, the priority for the Chargers is to continue to develop and take advantage of their rookie contracts as the team pushes for a title.

It’s a crucial year for wide receivers Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston, who will presumably lead the group to take that next step.

The addition of Allen could stunt that growth, as there would end up being too many mouths to feed on offense.

Allen’s fit with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel could also come into question. The offensive guru has historically favored receivers with speed and run-after-catch ability, as opposed to timing-based possession receivers.

In the end, Allen will provide a positive veteran presence to this young group as they continue to learn and grow. However, he’ll likely have to take on a lesser role for the betterment of the team.
