NFL Sets Week 1 Los Angeles Chargers Rivalry Game For Brazil, Per New Reporting

According to a report by The Athletic’s Nate Taylor and Daniel Popper, the Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s preferred choice to face the Los Angeles Chargers at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo on September 5th.

While the full 2025 NFL schedule remains under wraps, certain details are beginning to emerge. The NFL has recently announced a Christmas Day tripleheader, with Netflix broadcasting the first two games and Amazon Prime handling the primetime slot. Notably, the Chiefs are expected to feature in one of these Christmas games, continuing their trend of playing on December 25th.

Taylor and Popper’s report also indicates that both teams are open to the idea of starting their season with a divisional clash in Brazil. The NFL has historically avoided divisional matchups for its international series, with the 2023 game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans being a recent exception. The two teams previously played an international game in 2019 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The Chiefs have dominated their recent encounters with the Chargers, winning seven consecutive games since 2021. However, their 2024 matchups were closely contested, with both games decided by a single possession, including a dramatic 19-17 victory secured by Matthew Wright’s game-winning field goal.

The NFL’s decision to return to Brazil for a second consecutive year, with the Chargers designated as the home team, follows the success of the 2024 game where the Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers. In 2025, the league plans to host seven regular-season games outside the United States.

The 2025 NFL season will commence with the defending Super Bowl champions, the Eagles, hosting the season opener on September 4th. The Chargers’ game in Brazil will follow on September 5th, with the traditional Week 1 slate taking place on September 7th and Monday Night Football on September 8th.
