The Los Angeles Chargers heard the clarion call for more offensive weapons to ease Justin Herbert’s workload. They used four of their draft picks to take specifically offensive skill players, using the first two to take running back Omarion Hampton and wide receiver Tre Harris with their second pick.
Harris was recently named the 40th best pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by ESPN. Matt Miller wrote, “Harris would have been a lot higher on my board had he not missed five games because of injury in 2024. His smooth route-running skills and soft hands fit nicely alongside quarterback Justin Herbert and second-year receiver Ladd McConkey. Harris will have every chance to thrive as the Chargers’ starting X receiver.”

But according to Mike Sando of The Athletic, at least one person thinks fifth-rounder KeAndre Lambert-Smith is an even better prospect for the Chargers offense. That person just so happens to be a NFL executive.
“Another exec liked the receiver the Chargers drafted in the fifth round (KeAndre Lambert-Smith) better than the receiver they took in the second round (Tre Harris),” Sand writes. “Quicker, faster, can close cushion on a DB and make him wet his pants,” this exec said. “He will turn into your starting Z and run by people.””
Dane Brugler ranked Lambert-Smith nine spots (17th) behind Harris (8th) on his wide receiver draft big board, giving them a fourth-round and second-round grade, respectively. He wrote of him, “Lambert-Smith has the explosive speed to be a big-play threat for a vertical-based offense, although the volatility in his game will pigeonhole him. His lack of special-teams experience will need to change for him to secure a roster spot.”
