The Los Angeles Chargers brought in a familiar face during the first day of mandatory minicamp, hosting veteran wide receiver Willie Snead for a tryout, according to multiple reports, including ESPN’s Kris Rhim.
Snead, 32, is a well-traveled NFL veteran with ten seasons under his belt. Best known for his early-career breakout with the New Orleans Saints and a productive stint with the Baltimore Ravens, Snead has appeared in 103 games (48 starts), totaling 281 receptions for 3,445 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Los Angeles Chargers Host Veteran WR Willie Snead for Tryout at Minicamp

Since leaving Baltimore after the 2020 season, Snead’s career has been marked by inconsistency and short stints. He played for the Raiders and Panthers in 2021 before spending time with the 49ers from 2022 to 2023. Last season, he signed with the Miami Dolphins but was placed on injured reserve in the preseason and released shortly thereafter. He did not appear in a game during the 2023 season.
Despite his recent struggles, Snead brings a wealth of experience and could provide the Chargers with much-needed depth at a position in transition. Los Angeles overhauled its receiving corps this offseason, parting ways with Keenan Allen and bringing in new faces like rookie Tre Harris (2nd round, Ole Miss) and KeAndre Lambert-Smith (5th round, Auburn). They join a room led by Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Derius Davis. Mike Williams, who missed last season, also returns as a veteran presence.
There’s also a connection worth noting: Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz worked in Baltimore’s front office during Snead’s time with the Ravens, giving him familiarity with the receiver’s skill set and locker room presence.
Snead’s chances of making the roster remain uncertain. His production has declined since his Baltimore days, and the Chargers already have a crowded competition at receiver. Still, if he can flash some of his old reliability in camp, he could make a case for a depth role, especially in a young room that may benefit from a veteran voice.
As minicamp continues, the Chargers will evaluate whether Snead’s experience and polish are enough to earn him a second NFL act.
