The Los Angeles Chargers still have holes to fill on their roster and also have the opportunity to upgrade at certain positions to bolster their Super Bowl chances. The three candidates listed can do both, and all are reportedly open to being traded in one form or another.

Despite offseason additions, the Chargers may still have a need at cornerback after bypassing the position in the 2025 NFL Draft. Veterans Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste were signed, but the team could seek further help via trade or free agency.

One potential target is Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. ESPN reports the Chargers could be a fit, citing Alexander’s elite instincts, quickness, and scheme versatility—ideal traits for Jesse Minter’s zone-heavy defense. A two-time Pro Bowler, Alexander has 12 interceptions and 57 pass breakups but has played just 14 games over the past two seasons due to injuries.

The biggest hurdles are his durability and hefty contract, making a trade costly. A more realistic scenario? Waiting for a potential release and pursuing him without giving up assets. Until then, Los Angeles may stick with internal options while keeping an eye on the market.

Trey Hendrickson, Edge

With Joey Bosa gone, the Los Angeles Chargers could target Bengals star Trey Hendrickson to bolster their pass rush under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Hendrickson, who led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024, is currently in a contract standoff with Cincinnati. If no extension is reached, he may become available via trade.

Despite rostering Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuipulotu, and Bud Dupree, the Chargers could use Hendrickson’s elite production and durability. His 12.5 sacks in close games last season highlight his clutch impact—an ideal fit for Harbaugh’s win-now approach.

A trade wouldn’t be cheap—likely costing a first-round pick—but Hendrickson’s availability presents a rare chance to land a top-tier pass rusher. For a retooling Chargers team looking to compete immediately, he could be both a defensive difference-maker and tone-setter as they push for the playoffs.

Mark Andrews, TE

The Chargers continue to be linked to Ravens star tight end Mark Andrews, thanks to strong ties with GM Joe Hortiz and OC Greg Roman—both of whom worked with Andrews in Baltimore. Recent comments from Ravens GM Eric DeCosta hinted at some draft-time unpredictability, fueling speculation that Andrews could be on the move.

Andrews, who caught 11 touchdowns last season, would be a major upgrade for the Chargers’ offense, especially under Jim Harbaugh, who has a long track record of featuring tight ends. While Los Angeles signed Tyler Conklin and Will Dissly, neither offers the elite production or chemistry with Roman that Andrews brings.

The biggest hurdle is Andrews’ $16.9 million cap hit and the compensation it would take to pry him from Baltimore. But if the Chargers want a proven, scheme-fit weapon for their retooled offense, Andrews could be the perfect addition.
