Los Angeles Chargers Secure Former 4th Round Pick For Weak Positional Group

According to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Los Angeles Chargers have signed former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand to a one-year contract, with potential earnings reaching $3.35 million. Hand, a 29-year-old, was initially selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, following a collegiate career at Alabama.

The Chargers currently rosters only Otito Ogbonnia, Justin Eboigbe, Teair Tart, and Scott Matlock for the interior defensive line. Matlock also plays fullback.

At the time of his release from the Lions’ injured reserve, Hand was in the final year of a four-year, $3,141,964 contract, which included a $681,964 signing bonus. Subsequently, he joined the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad but was released after a brief stint. The Tennessee Titans then signed him, and he appeared in one game before a season-ending injury. The Miami Dolphins signed him to a contract in 2023, but he was among their final roster cuts following the preseason.

Hand was then signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad and eventually elevated to the active roster, leading to a one-year contract renewal for the 2024 season.
