Quarterback Justin Herbert, the face of the franchise for the Los Angeles Chargers, is well known for his quiet demeanor and avoidance of unnecessary media attention. He isn’t just all about football, however, as he’s shown through his prowess on the grill, with his “victory brisket” tradition.
Chargers QB Justin Herbert’s Hobbies
Recently, Herbert was featured on Women FIDE Master Anna Cramling’s YouTube channel, where the Swedish-Spanish chess master had a one-on-one review session with the Chargers quarterback.
They went over a blitz chess match, Herbert won against New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins in the “BLITZCHAMP IV” tournament featuring several NFL PLayers, including Herbert and Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater.
According to Herbert, their two-game road trip against the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers is what kick-started his journey into chess after his blindside protector, Rashawn Slater, “beat me (Herbert) really badly”.
He has since improved rapidly, finishing 3rd in the aforementioned blitz tournament and also managed to beat Slater when they played each other this offseason.
