The Los Angeles Chargers are actively exploring options to strengthen their tight end position, as evidenced by their recent visit with former Jaguars and Giants tight end Evan Engram. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, this meeting follows Engram’s visit with the Denver Broncos on Monday, suggesting a competitive pursuit for the veteran tight end.

Both the Chargers and Broncos are in need of tight end upgrades and offer Engram the opportunity to contribute to contending teams in the AFC. However, the Chargers possess a distinct advantage with quarterback Justin Herbert, known for his tendency to frequently target tight ends. This factor could prove decisive in Engram’s decision.
During his three seasons with the Jaguars, Engram demonstrated consistent production, amassing 234 receptions for 2,094 yards and nine touchdowns. His most productive season came in 2023, where he recorded 114 receptions for 963 yards and four touchdowns. In 2024, his season was curtailed by a torn labrum, limiting him to nine starts. Despite this, he still managed 47 catches for 365 yards and one touchdown.
Physically, Engram possesses impressive athleticism. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 234 pounds, he recorded a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Combine. While his peak speed may have diminished, he remains one of the league’s most effective flex tight ends when healthy. Pairing Engram with Will Dissly would create a complementary tight end duo for the Chargers, reminiscent of the Baltimore Ravens’ successful tandem of Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
