Los Angeles Chargers star defensive back Derwin James Jr. isn’t just impacting games on the field — he’s now programming them, too.
As part of NFL Network’s sixth annual Players’ Choice series, the Chargers’ four-time All-Pro safety is curating an entire day of television, airing June 17 starting at 10 a.m. PST on NFL Network and streaming on NFL+. James joins an exclusive list of players — including Ja’Marr Chase and Arik Armstead — who’ve taken the reins to showcase the moments and legends that shaped their love for football.
Los Angeles Chargers DB Curates NFL Network Programming For Today
James’ selections blend personal highlights with tributes to iconic defenders. The lineup includes classic games, such as the 2007 Bears vs. Broncos — a nod to Devin Hester — and the Chargers’ thrilling 2021 win over the Browns. Viewers will also see A Football Life documentaries on Edgerrin James, Charles Woodson, and Sean Taylor, as well as segments spotlighting Deion Sanders and the greatest defensive backs in NFL history.
The broadcast mirrors James’ own evolution into one of the NFL’s most versatile defenders. After finding a groove late last season playing closer to the line of scrimmage, James has flourished this offseason in Jesse Minter’s defense. No longer adjusting, James is now thriving — whether in man coverage, run support, or as a disruptive blitzer.
In recent Chargers minicamp sessions, he’s already logged multiple pass breakups and a tipped screen on a blitz, showcasing the speed, instincts, and physicality that define his game.
“I feel like this year, Year 2, homing in on it, it’ll be a lot of fun for me,” James said. “Be free, play fast.”
On June 17, fans will get to see the players who inspired him — and the player he’s become.
