Chargers Coach Jim Harbaugh Served As Real-Life Inspiration For Hit TV Show

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is one of the most iconic and influential coaches in all of football. Not just for his football IQ and ability to build a tremendous culture within the locker room, but even for his famed fashion and legendary khakis.

So much so that this fashion has even spilled over into the entertainment world.

During an interview with Men In Blazers, Ted Lasso star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis spoke about an exchange he had with the esteemed coach who highly influenced the show’s lead role.

The World fell in love with Ted Lasso. It was the show that we needed during a very trying time in our history.

Lasso’s charm, curiosity, and famed khakis inspired us all to be better and stay positive. Where do you think a lot of this inspiration came from?

“This is what I write, ‘Hey Coach, how are you? Writing you from jolly old England. We’re in the middle of filming episode 2 of that Ted Lasso show I’m doing for Apple. So far, so good, I think? 🤷‍♂️ I have a small, silly question for you. On game days, what do you actually wear to and from the stadium?” says Sudeikis.

“I wear the same clothes every day: khakis and a blue sweatshirt,” Sudeikis reads of Harbaugh’s response. “Same to the game that I coach in, and will wear the same thing to post interview, and then home as well. No shower unless it’s really hot, or really cold outside, or raining. In that case, our equipment manager has a duplicate pair of everything I wear in my locker, so I put that on to wear back on the plane or home, and always a new pair of socks and underwear…I pack a playbook, call sheet, and a toothbrush and wear the rest of what I need. As I like to say, I pack a toothbrush and a great attitude.”

What an absolutely legendary response, and yet, it should come as no surprise to anyone who knows or follows Jim Harbaugh.

His quirkiness is his charm, and by all accounts, has led to his unparalleled success in both college football and the NFL.

In his first season in LA, he led the Chargers from a bottom team in the league to the playoffs. This year, he will look to build upon that, like he has with every place he has been, and lead the Bolts to their first playoff win since the 2018-19 season.

Ted Lasso has been an inspiration on many levels, but how cool is it to think that much of that inspiration came from the Los Angeles Chargers’ favorite pair of khakis, Jim Harbaugh?
