The Los Angeles Chargers Have Done Little To Address Biggest Need

The Los Angeles Chargers didn’t make a splash in free agency, but they did add a plethora of pieces who should aid in making them a better football team.

They also had a solid draft, stacking talent at some positions, while finally addressing the need for a wide receiver.

There is one position, however, that is still a major concern, and yet it seems that the Chargers are content going into the 2025 season as is.

Aaron Schatz of ESPN just dropped an article highlighting the biggest post-draft needs for all 32 NFL teams. For the Chargers, he listed a fairly obvious one: the Center position.

“Veteran center Bradley Bozeman ranked 29th out of 32 qualified centers with a 92.0% pass block win rate. The Chargers signed him to a two-year extension anyway, but they might have a better option behind him after signing free agent Andre James.”

“James has always had shockingly high pass block win rates. He was at 95.7% last year, fifth among centers, and at 96.5% in 2023, second behind the Chiefs’ Creed Humphrey.”

James was certainly a nice addition, as he will add competition to the room and could even create a training camp battle.

They drafted one offensive lineman, Branson Taylor, in the 6th round out of Pittsburgh. However, he played tackle in college and is viewed as a guard in the NFL. He could potentially transition and train at center, but that could be a tall ask.

Bozeman finished with an overall grade of 61.1 in 2024, according to PFF. His pass blocking grade was a porous 51.4, and he garnered a brutal 45.6 grade against Houston in the Wildcard Playoff round, allowing 3 pressures. His run blocking was slightly better at 64.8.

The Chargers have spent a ton of draft capital on an offensive line that features 4 former first-round picks. Hopefully, the center position does not unravel the entire thing.
