Contract details of the 2026 undrafted free agent class for the Los Angeles Chargers have been revealed, and the numbers behind them are astonishing.
Guaranteed Money In Contracts
Following the money is, at times, the best indicator of what a team thinks of specific players and their chances of sticking on a final roster.
For undrafted free agents, especially, the path is extremely difficult to climb. Since they weren’t selected in the draft, being signed afterwards can be a tryout for these players to show that they belong on a team.

However, sometimes players with draftable grades fall through the cracks, whether it be due to medical or character concerns. It allows teams around the league to bring in talented players at a significantly discounted price.
So why the big deal on guaranteed money in these contracts? Since teams have no obligation to keep them around long-term, these large investments, relatively speaking, signal the potential front offices see in them.
The Chargers Going All In
After witnessing the physical beating franchise quarterback Justin Herbert took last season, the Chargers’ front office had had enough and decided to overhaul the offensive line room.
They spent four of their eight draft picks on offensive linemen and added two undrafted free agents afterwards.
With contract details emerging, it was revealed that one of the undrafted free agents in former Oregon Duck offensive tackle, Isaiah World, received $534,000 in guaranteed money per Over the Cap.
It’s the second-largest amount of guaranteed money an undrafted player has received in NFL History, behind Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who signed a $3.018 fully guaranteed contract.
Who In The World?
The 6’5, 323 lbs player was considered a top offensive line prospect heading into the draft, and was given a 5th to 6th-round grade by Dane Brugler of The Athletic in his annual edition of “The Beast“.
An ACL tear late in the season against Indiana in the College Football Semifinals, however, stopped him from doing any athletic testing or on-field drills at both the NFL Combine and Pro Day.
It significantly hurt his draft stock, as teams simply weren’t willing to take the risk on an already injured player who lacked consistency despite spending four seasons at Nevada prior to his final stop in Eugene.
The Chargers evidently saw something in him, as he was a player who was invited on a Top-30 visit prior to the draft.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh, in particular, was visibly excited on a clip released by the Chargers’ social media team on YouTube. Viewers were able to hear a loud, “YEAH!” shouted from the quirky coach upon finding out the team had landed him as an undrafted free agent.
The Chargers are banking on World to be a contributor in the 2027 season, seeing as he’ll miss most of his rookie season with a nine-month recovery timetable for ACL tears. This is aided by preliminary reports from the Chargers themselves on World being absent during rookie minicamp.
Aside from the dollar amount, the belief from the team in the player Isaiah World currently is, and will become, is really what’s more impressive.
It’s a risk-to-reward balance that the Chargers see in their favor, as the Chargers give him a chance when no one else would.
Other Notable Undrafted Free Agents
The Chargers didn’t stop there, as they shelled out more guaranteed money to other players, albeit at a lesser amount.
Some notable players include Western Michigan outside linebacker Nadame Tucker, Utah linebacker Lander Barton, and cornerback Avery Smith. All three received $247,500 in guaranteed money, which is typically the number given to undrafted players who are highly sought after.
Currently, the Chargers have over $40 million in effective cap space, which is the third most in the league. It allows them to spend big after the draft.
Through these signings, the Chargers are creating a competitive environment that helps bring out the best in the players, while also filling out their roster depth.
