Chargers Reveal DB Return Timeline After MCL Injury

The Los Angeles Chargers received another setback in an already battered secondary. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, cornerback Tarheeb Still suffered an MCL sprain in Thursday night’s win over the Minnesota Vikings and is expected to miss two to four weeks.

Still exited in the second half after posting three tackles and a pass defended. The timing is unfortunate for one of Los Angeles’ most consistent young defenders. The Chargers have three games remaining before their Week 12 bye, meaning Still could realistically be held out until Week 13 against the Raiders on November 30.

“One more question mark in the secondary for L.A., which visits Tennessee next Sunday,” Pelissero noted on social media.

Secondary Depth Tested Again

Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?

The Chargers’ secondary has been ravaged by injuries. Derwin James left Thursday’s game with an ankle sprain, Tony Jefferson exited with a lower-body issue, and Elijah Molden continues to play through pain. With Still now sidelined, Ja’Sir Taylor is expected to take over slot duties, while Donte Jackson, Cam Hart, and Benjamin St-Juste will anchor the cornerback group.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh has remained characteristically tight-lipped about the team’s defensive health, but it’s clear that Los Angeles is running thin. General manager Joe Hortiz responded quickly, hosting workouts on Friday with multiple free agents — including former Vikings safety Lewis Cine, ex-Michigan defensive tackle Christopher Hinton, and veteran safety Marcus Maye.

Eyeing Reinforcements Ahead of Titans Matchup

The Chargers are expected to evaluate whether Still should be placed on injured reserve, depending on his recovery timeline. For now, the team will rely on depth options like Nikko Reed and practice squad corners Isas Waxter and Myles Purchase to fill the gaps.

With the Chargers sitting in the thick of the AFC playoff race, their ability to patch together a functioning secondary — while surviving a brutal stretch of injuries — may define the coming weeks.
