The Los Angeles Chargers are parting ways with wide receiver Jalen Reagor, finalizing his release on Wednesday with an injury settlement. It marks another turn in a turbulent NFL journey for the former first-round pick, once chosen ahead of Justin Jefferson.
Philadelphia made Reagor the No. 21 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, a decision that continues to shadow his career. Jefferson, taken one pick later by the Vikings, has become one of the league’s most dominant receivers with four Pro Bowls, four All-Pro nods, and over 7,400 receiving yards in just six seasons. Reagor, meanwhile, has struggled to secure a long-term role.
Chargers Cut Jalen Reagor From Practice Squad

Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?
After two uneven seasons in Philadelphia, the Eagles traded Reagor to Minnesota for draft picks. He was waived by the Vikings following the 2022 campaign and later joined New England’s practice squad. His stint with the Patriots was short-lived—he appeared in 11 games in 2023 but caught just seven passes for 138 yards before parting ways with the team after social media activity drew unwanted attention.
Los Angeles offered a new opportunity when the Chargers added him to their practice squad during the 2024 season. Reagor appeared in eight games, contributing seven receptions for 110 yards, but never carved out a consistent role in the offense. He returned on a one-year deal for 2025, only to land on the practice squad injured list before this week’s release.
Across five seasons with four different teams, Reagor has totaled 72 receptions for 799 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also contributed on special teams with 61 punt returns for 488 yards. Those numbers stand in stark contrast to the player the Eagles passed on—Jefferson has 499 career catches and 41 touchdowns with Minnesota, underscoring the missed opportunity Philadelphia’s front office has acknowledged in hindsight.
Reagor’s exit from Los Angeles doesn’t necessarily mark the end of his career, but it does place him at another crossroads. Once drafted with the expectations of a franchise centerpiece, he now faces the reality of fighting for a roster spot elsewhere in the league.
