The Los Angeles Chargers have set the stage for Week 1, and running back Najee Harris will be in uniform when the team takes on the Kansas City Chiefs in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday night.
Chargers Expect Najee Harris To Play Vs. Chiefs
Head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed Harris’ status during a Wednesday press conference, offering clarity after a summer filled with uncertainty. “The plan is for Najee to play,” Harbaugh said. “His snap count and involvement will be determined as the game goes along, but he’s active and ready to go.”
Harris’ availability had been in question since he suffered an eye injury in a July fireworks accident, which kept him on the non-football injury list for the entirety of training camp. The running back was activated last week and has been practicing with the team, including a full participation day on Tuesday.
The Chargers’ backfield looks different this season. Harris joined the team as a free agent in March, and the team added first-round pick Omarion Hampton to complement the veteran. Friday’s matchup in Brazil will provide the first glimpse of how the duo can function together in live action.
With Harris returning and Hampton ready to contribute, the Chargers hope to strike a balance between explosiveness and durability out of the backfield as they kick off the 2025 season.
