The Los Angeles Chargers’ postseason push has been built on resilience, but once again, offensive line health is threatening to derail it.
The team announced on X that Jamaree Salyer is questionable to return with a hamstring injury, another blow to a unit that has been battered all season. For a Chargers team sitting at 10-4 with Justin Herbert at quarterback, protection up front remains the biggest concern heading into the stretch run.
Los Angeles has played most of the year without its two starting tackles. Joe Alt suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4, while Rashawn Slater was lost in training camp. Since then, Herbert has operated behind a constantly shifting line, often under heavy pressure.

Chargers Jamaree Salyer Questionable to Return

That pressure has shown up in the numbers. Herbert has been sacked 49 times, tied among the highest totals in the league — a glaring issue for a team with playoff ambitions.
The national spotlight has noticed, too. On The Pat McAfee Show, Pat McAfee summarized what Chargers fans have been watching all season.
“Watching that game … Herbert was just running for his life the entire time,” McAfee said. “For some reason, they just can’t get the golden goose any protection.”
Is Jim Harbaugh The Real Life Ted Lasso?
Salyer’s recent emergence at left tackle offered some stability. After uneven play from other options, he delivered a solid outing against the Raiders in Week 13, helping Herbert play more efficiently even without gaudy numbers.
That’s why his hamstring injury is concerning. With Trey Pipkins also questionable, the Chargers’ depth is being tested yet again at the most critical position on the line.
Herbert has proven he can win despite chaos up front, but January football leaves little margin for error. If Salyer can’t return quickly, the Chargers may once again be asking their quarterback to overcome protection issues that have lingered all season.
