Just days after Perryman was arrested for allegedly carrying two illegal AR-style rifles in his car, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has decided not to pursue the case. TMZ Sports first reported that the D.A. declined to file charges against the 32-year-old veteran linebacker, although the specific reasoning behind the decision remains unclear.

Perryman was pulled over by police in the Los Angeles area on Friday evening while reportedly on his way to a local gun range. During the traffic stop, officers discovered five firearms in his trunk—including two AR-style rifles deemed non-compliant under California’s strict gun laws, along with three legal handguns.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony gun possession and held without bail over the weekend.

According to TMZ, Perryman’s agent confirmed the charges had been dropped. “The charges have been dismissed,” the agent said. “At this time, there’s no additional comment, but we’re grateful for everyone’s patience throughout the process.”

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh visited Perryman while he was still in custody over the weekend and offered a strong vote of support.

“He’s working through the legalities along with his representation,” Harbaugh told reporters Monday. “Had a chance to see him yesterday. Went over and visited and he’s in good spirits. Love Denzel. He’s always done right, he’s never been in trouble. He’s got a beautiful family and we’re just letting the due process play out.”

Now, with the legal process resolved, Perryman is expected to rejoin the Chargers and resume preparations for the 2025 season.

A Return to L.A.

Originally drafted by the Chargers in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Perryman spent six seasons with the franchise before stints with the Raiders and Texans. He returned to the Chargers this offseason as a veteran depth piece and locker room leader.

While the arrest temporarily clouded his comeback, the dropped charges clear the path for Perryman to continue his NFL journey without legal encumbrance. His scheduled court appearance on Tuesday morning will now be a formality, as the case is no longer active.
