Chargers LB Daiyan Henley Fully Healthy, Focused on Even Bigger 2025 After Breakout Season
As the Los Angeles Chargers report to training camp, one of the team’s most important young players is not only healthy but hungry. Linebacker Daiyan Henley, coming off a breakout 2024 campaign, confirmed Wednesday that he’s a full go for the start of the team’s summer practices after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Henley revealed that he played nearly the entire 2024 season with a torn labrum, an injury he suffered early in the year but managed to push through while starting all 17 games. He underwent surgery in the offseason and now enters training camp fully cleared.
“I’m ready,” Henley told reporters this week at Chargers camp. “Back to 100 percent.”
That’s welcome news for a team who kicks off their offseason training camp this week in preparation of the Hall of Fame preseason game against the Lions on June 31st, and defense that led the NFL in points allowed last season—and for a player who was at the center of it all. The former Washington State standout, drafted in the third round in 2023, posted 157 tackles, one sack, one interception, and eight passes defensed in his second NFL season. His stat line was not only team-leading but reflected the sideline-to-sideline impact that made him a foundational piece of the Chargers’ retooled defense.
A Star Emerges—and Looks Ahead

After a quiet rookie year primarily spent on special teams, Henley’s rise in 2024 was meteoric. A coaching overhaul opened the door for a larger role, and Henley seized the opportunity with a mix of athleticism, instincts, and relentless effort.
But don’t expect him to dwell on past accomplishments.
“Last year was last year. It is what it is. I can improve. There’s so much more for me out there,” Henley said this spring. “It’s a process, and I’m not ever trying to be stagnant.”
That mindset has become central to how Henley approaches both his individual goals and his place within the team. Despite the accolades and statistical success, he remains grounded and forward-thinking.
“I think the biggest thing about expectations like that is that they have to start within,” Henley told the team’s official site. “You have to want that for yourself to go get it.”
The Chargers’ Defensive Cornerstone

In a franchise undergoing transition—from front office changes to a retooled roster under head coach Jim Harbaugh—Henley’s development offers rare continuity. His leadership on the field, versatility at the second level, and ability to elevate those around him have positioned him as a centerpiece for what the Chargers hope will be a sustainable, elite defense.
His effort also hasn’t gone unnoticed outside the building. Coaches around the league have begun to take note of his high football IQ and ability to anticipate plays. But even as outside recognition grows, Henley isn’t looking to rest.
“My goal has always been to be that type of player in this league for years to come,” he said. “Whether it’s this year or next, I’m going to keep working for it.”
Eyes on 2025
For a team in a tough AFC West and a conference loaded with offensive firepower, Henley’s presence is more than just valuable—it’s necessary. And as he returns to camp healthy, energized, and driven, the Chargers know what they have: a tone-setting linebacker who isn’t chasing awards, but excellence.
If 2024 was Daiyan Henley’s breakout, 2025 might be his true arrival.
