The Los Angeles Chargers went 11-6 in their first season under head coach Jim Harbaugh, a six-win improvement from the previous year. While the Chargers schedule in 2025 features a lot of difficult matchups against great teams, there’s a path to Los Angeles making the playoffs.
Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, let’s dive into our game-by-game Chargers predictions.
Week 1 vs Kansas City Chiefs: Loss (0 – 1)

There are a number of games on the Chargers’ schedule where the season-ending injury to Rashawn Slater will prove particularly costly. This is one of them. It allows the Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive line to win on the interior with Chris Jones and on the right side with pressure brought against Trey Pipkins. With Kansas City also motivated to make a statement in the season opener, the Chargers will lose in São Paulo.

Week 2 @ Las Vegas Raiders: Win (1 – 1)

The Las Vegas Raiders’ offense will prove far more of a threat to this Chargers’ defense than it has in previous seasons. This game also poses a real challenge for the right side of the Chargers’ offensive line, which Maxx Crosby will certainly exploit. Fortunately for Los Angeles, the Raiders’ secondary is a glaring weakness that can be repeatedly exploited, and Ladd McConkey will do that enough to secure a win.

Week 3 vs Denver Broncos: Loss (1 – 2)

The Denver Broncos might have the best defense in football. This secondary can put special attention on McConkey, and the Chargers don’t really have many other options who can beat Patrick Surtain or Riley Moss in coverage consistently. Furthermore, Denver’s pass rush can win the battles up front versus Los Angeles. It’s a defensive-driven effort, but Bo Nix and Courtland Sutton put the finishing touches on a Broncos’ victory

Week 4 @ New York Giants: Win (2-2)

If there’s a potential early upset on the Chargers schedule, this is a game to watch. That’s entirely because the New York Giants can throw Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter all at the Chargers’ offensive line. Herbert is going to be under duress a lot in this matchup and it’s difficult to see the Chargers’ run game being effective. Even with that acknowledged, Los Angeles still boasts an offense far superior to what New York is sending out there.

Week 5 vs Washington Commanders: Loss (2 – 3)

Elite quarterbacks were a bit of a problem for the Chargers defense in 2024 and we don’t see that changing this season. Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin will find vulnerabilities to exploit, allowing the Washington Commanders to take an early first-half lead. Herbert and Co. rebound in the second half, but some fourth-quarter heroics from Daniels deliver a win for Washington.

Week 6 @ Miami Dolphins: Win (3 – 3)

The Miami Dolphins might have the worst secondary in the NFL, but the three-man pass rush of Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Chop Robinson can cause havoc. It results in Herbert taking a lot of hits in this game, but his plays from a clean pocket will be all Los Angeles needs. Plus, Chargers defensive coordinator Brandon Staley should put on a coaching clinic for how to slow down Miami’s offense.

Week 7 vs Indianapolis Colts: Win (4 – 3)

Make it back-to-back wins for the Chargers. It all starts with the Chargers defense, which should excel at neutralizing the Indianapolis Colts’ passing game. Jonathan Taylor will find the end zone twice in a 100-yard performance, but the Colts’ inability to cover McConkey paired with the team’s poor quarterback play proves costly.

Week 8 vs Minnesota Vikings: Loss (4 – 4)

The Minnesota Vikings have an elite pass rush, a great offensive line and one of the best receiving corps in the NFL. It positions them perfectly to go into Los Angeles and come out with a convincing victory. Herbert is sacked three times and picked off twice, with the Chargers’ offense struggling to get into any rhythm.

Week 9 @ Tennessee Titans: Win (5 – 4)

Coming off a brutal loss at home, the Chargers have the difficulty of a cross-country trip with an early (10:00 AM PT) kickoff. It often can result in slow starts for the traveling team, but that won’t be the case against the Tennessee Titans. Staley draws up exotic looks and blitzes that generate a pair of interceptions, helping the Chargers cruise to a road win.

Week 10 vs Pittsburgh Steelers: Win (6 – 4)

This is a toss-up game for both teams. On the one hand, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive line should feast in this trench battle versus Los Angeles. However, it’s also hard to see how a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers and a pedestrian Steelers’ offense excels in this matchup. Herbert puts Los Angeles up 28-24 late and the Chargers get the game-sealing stop to pick up their sixth win of the season.

Week 11 @ Jacksonville Jaguars: Win (7 – 4)

It’s a bit of a difficult draw for the Chargers right before the bye. At this point in the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars offense should be firing on all cylinders, with Trevor Lawrence playing well and the receiver tandem of Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter thriving. However, this is also a revenge game for Los Angeles. It’s also one of those tight matchups where great coaching matters and that’s where the Chargers have a real edge.
- Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers 28, Jacksonville Jaguars 27

Week 13 vs Las Vegas Raiders: Loss (7 – 5)

Returning from the bye, the Chargers defense comes out flat. Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers both find the end zone, but the greatest damage is done by rookie back Ashton Jeanty. On the other side of the ball, Crosby sacks Herbert twice and the pressure on the Chargers’ quarterback gets in the way of a win.
- Prediction: Las Vegas Raiders 23, Los Angeles Chargers 20
Week 14 vs Philadelphia Eagles: Loss (7-6)

The Philadelphia Eagles have the advantage in this matchup everywhere. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will take full advantage of a weakened Chargers’ offensive line. Philadelphia will also give Jalen Hurts a clean pocket, allowing him to pepper whichever of A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith gets open against the Chargers’ secondary. Dropping to 7-6, Los Angeles’ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread.

Week 15 @ Kansas City Chiefs: Loss (7-7)

Much like the Week 1 draw, the Chargers’ biggest issues simply don’t align well against Kansas City. Los Angeles doesn’t have enough pass-rushing talent to consistently get to Patrick Mahomes. Blitzing won’t work either, especially against this Chiefs’ receiving corps. Los Angeles will keep it close once again, but the effort falls short and the team falls to .500.

Week 16 @ Dallas Cowboys: Win (8-7)

It’s going to be a shootout at AT&T Stadium. Herbert and Dak Prescott combine for over 550 passing yards and five total touchdowns, with the two offenses going blow-for-blow until the fourth quarter. Los Angeles takes a 31-28 lead and then its defense generates a three-and-out, which is turned into another field goal. The Cowboys’ game-winning touchdown drive falls just short, keeping the Chargers’ playoff hopes alive.

Week 17 vs Houston Texans: Loss (8-8)

Herbert and the Chargers’ offense can’t avenge its playoff loss to the Houston Texans. Once again, it’s the Texans’ pass rush that proves to be the undoing of Harbaugh’s team. A relentless pressure for all four quarters results in a strip-sack of Herbert and an interception. The two turnovers will neutralize any hope the Chargers have of winning this one.
- Prediction: Houston Texans 20, Los Angeles Chargers 17
Week 18 @ Denver Broncos: Win (9-8)

With the Broncos, our projected winners of the AFC West, having less to play for, a playoff-hungry Chargers team goes into Denver and wins the regular-season finale. Herbert leads a game-sealing drive to put Los Angeles up 27-21 and the Broncos can’t answer. Considering this team went without All-Pro left tackle Rashawn Slater for the entire season, a winning record should be considered an accomplishment.
- Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers 27, Denver Broncos 21
