Jets Now Sharing Positive Garrett Wilson Injury Update

The New York Jets’ nightmare season may have caught a small break. After star wide receiver Garrett Wilson limped off the field late in Sunday’s 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos in London, initial fears of a serious injury have eased.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Wilson underwent an MRI on Monday and “appears to have avoided a serious knee injury,” though he’s still expected to miss some time. Cimini added that the Jets’ upcoming schedule — with games against the Panthers and Bengals before their bye week — could factor into how the team handles his recovery.

Wilson’s injury came on one of New York’s final drives in the fourth quarter, when he twisted awkwardly attempting to catch a high pass from Justin Fields. He left the field limping and did not return. After the game, Wilson told reporters, “I’m going to find out here soon and know how to move forward based on what I find out,” per The New York Post.

While early reports had labeled the issue a hip contusion, it’s now been clarified as a knee injury — though not one expected to end his season. The 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal 0-6 start for the Jets, recording 382 yards through five games despite a stagnant offense that ranks near the bottom of the league in both total and passing yardage.

What’s Next for New York

Even if Wilson’s absence is brief, the timing is difficult for head coach Aaron Glenn’s struggling offense. The Jets posted an astonishing minus-10 passing yards in the loss to Denver, a franchise low, and have shown little chemistry between Fields and their receiving corps.

If Wilson misses time, expect Josh Reynolds and Tyler Johnson to see increased targets — though neither has come close to matching Wilson’s production or playmaking ability.

For now, the Jets and their fans can exhale: Wilson’s injury isn’t season-ending. But the offense’s path forward remains as uncertain as ever.
