Insider Updates CeeDee Lamb Injury Timeline, Will He Play vs. Packers?

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s 24-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, raising concerns about his availability for Sunday night’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers. According to Adam Schefter, “Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to the Bears that makes him unlikely to play Sunday night vs. the Packers, per sources. The Cowboys want to see how Lamb is doing the next 10-14 days before making further determinations about his status.”

Lamb exited in the first quarter after taking a handoff from quarterback Dak Prescott and being tackled by a Bears defender, appearing to have his left ankle caught awkwardly. He was initially evaluated at the blue tent on the Cowboys’ sideline before heading to the locker room, where trainers taped his ankle. Lamb briefly returned in the second quarter but was unable to continue.

Following the game, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones confirmed the severity of the injury: “We’ve got to evaluate the full thing, see how he’s moving around as the day goes. Certainly, he’s got a high ankle sprain and every one of those are different. We’d love to have him back for Green Bay, but we also have to understand the injury is what it is.”

Earlier reports suggested Lamb was optimistic about playing, with Cowboys insider Jon Machota noting he “absolutely” felt like he could play next week. Schefter’s update, however, now indicates the team is taking a more cautious approach, monitoring Lamb over the next 10-14 days before finalizing his status.

CeeDee Lamb’s Fantasy Football Impact

Lamb is a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ passing game. Through his first five NFL seasons (2020–2024), he ranks 11th in receiving touchdowns, 4th in catches of 5+ per game, and 4th in targets. He also accounted for 33.9% of Dallas’ receiving yards since 2023, the highest in the league over that span.

Without Lamb, Dallas has alternatives to shoulder the load. George Pickens has emerged as a strong WR2 option, capable of stepping into a larger role. Tight end Jake Ferguson will also see increased involvement in the passing game, solidifying his weekly TE1 status in fantasy formats if Lamb is sidelined.

Looking Ahead To The Green Bay Packers

The Cowboys are balancing optimism with caution. High ankle sprains are notoriously unpredictable, and while Lamb is a vital part of the offense, the team is prioritizing his health over a short-term return. Over the next 10-14 days, the league, fans, and fantasy players alike will closely monitor his recovery and availability against the Packers.
