Insider Shares Surprising Cam Ward Injury Update Ahead Of Texans Tilt

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward (ankle/calf) was limited in Tuesday’s practice, according to Ian Rapoport.

The Titans only held a walk-through, so Wednesday’s participation level was an estimate. Ward has taken every snap for the Titans this season, including all 70 in Sunday’s loss to the Colts, when he was sacked four times.

On the same day, head coach Brian Callahan announced that he would hand off play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree.

Hardegree, hired in 2024, has limited NFL experience calling plays, with only a brief stint with the Raiders in 2023. Still, the Titans needed a change. Entering Week 4, Tennessee ranked near the bottom of the league: 31st in yards per game, 32nd in touchdowns, 32nd in passing yards, and 32nd in sacks allowed.

The rookie No. 1 overall pick, is averaging just 8.4 fantasy points per game, ranking QB36 through three weeks. Through three games, he has completed 54.5 percent of his passes for 506 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. While calm and technically sound, he has sometimes held the ball too long, contributing to high sack totals. Critics have targeted Brian and Bill Callahan, citing issues with scheme design, a patchwork offensive line, and dropped passes.

“The answers are not there for Ward when the defenses come bearing down on him and the currently patchwork offensive line,” analysts noted.

Room for Growth

Despite struggles, Ward has shown improvement in sack avoidance. Analysts say he must continue adjusting to NFL game speed while the offense catches up. The lack of outlet passes and quick options in the current scheme has exacerbated the problem, though Ward remains a capable operator when given the right opportunities.

With Hardegree now calling plays and Ward recovering from limited practice, the Titans hope to spark an offense that has shown flashes of talent but remains hampered by execution and schematic issues. For Ward, the focus will be refining decision-making under pressure while adapting to a system still in flux.
