USC Trojans Working To Flip Top 2027 Prospect Away From Texas

Last Saturday was a massive recruiting day for the USC Trojans as over 40 recruits took to the Coliseum to watch the Trojans take on the Michigan State Spartans.

One of those recruits was elite 2027 prospect, linebacker Taven Epps. He is currently committed to Texas, but Lincoln Riley would love to flip him and keep him home.

Taven Epps Has Great Visit With USC Trojans

According to 247 Sports, Epps is currently the 5th-ranked linebacker in the 2027 class. The 4-star, 6’4, 220-pounder is the 85th-ranked overall player nationally.

He has been committed to the Texas Longhorns since April, but the Trojans would love to keep the Tustin prospect home in the Southland.

He recently spoke with 247 Sports about his visit and how it went.

“Getting to sit with my Tustin teammates, meet with other recruits, and meet a few coaches,” Epps told 247. “I spoke with coach Ryan, and he let me know who to watch out there. Also, let me know he wanted me to be a Trojan and stay in California.”

His Tustin teammates included 4-star DB Khalil Terry and 4-star defensive lineman Jeremiah Williams

“The energy was great at the game. We are sitting in the recruit area, but had a lot of alumni around us. Meeting them and getting to hear how they love USC was fun to hear about.”

Epps has the ability to play linebacker or EDGE, so his versatility his a big draw with the top programs. Seeing as Rob Ryan feels like the lead on his recruitment, at this time, it appears that USC views him more as a linebacker.

The Trojans’ linebacker room is currently very young but very talented. Desman Stephens II is a starter as a true sophomore, and Jadyn Walker is getting reps as a redshirt freshman. They are also very excited about true freshmen Matai Tagoa’i and AJ Tuitele

In the 2026 class, they have commitments from the electric Talanoa Ili, Shaun Scott, and Taylor Johnson. Epps would be a great headliner of the 2027 class if they were able to complete the flip.

Epps currently has visits scheduled with Georgia this weekend (host’s Alabama), UNC on October 4th, Notre Dame on October 17th, Oklahoma on October 25th, Alabama on November 8th, and Texas on November 28th.

The USC Trojans made an impression, but they will have plenty of competition.
