USC Trojans Practice No. 16 Notes
Last on-field viewing day before game week

Hot day. Moving week on campus (students back). Parking sparse. Final full viewing access of USC Trojans fall camp — next week shifts to press-conference only.

Big News: Key Players Back In Pads

  • Mark Bowman (true freshman TE) and Breck Kolojay (OL) both returned to pads after missing a couple of practices.
  • Coach Riley had already indicated these were normal camp bumps and bruises (outside of the known longer-term situation with Killian O’Connor). No major injury concerns.
  • Every rep matters for true freshmen, so this is a clear positive heading into the final stretch.

Mark Bowman notes

  • Currently my projected starting tight end.
  • Rotation looks like Bowman + Tucker Ashcraft + Nela Tupou (especially in 13 personnel).
  • Now listed at 245 pounds. Size + movement as a true freshman continues to stand out.
  • Saw sled work and blocking drills. Looked unrestricted in the portions available to media.

Breck Kolojay notes

  • Currently sits as the backup/next-man-up guard (essentially guard No. 3 on the two-deep).
  • Can play either side.
  • Still getting fully acclimated after earlier bangs; has a high ceiling but the guys ahead of him have had strong camps.

Special Teams Snapshot

Punt return rotation

  • Trent Mosley remains the clear favorite to start.
  • Zacharyus Williams, and newly added Terrell Anderson, also getting work. Depth and versatility look solid.

Kick return

  • Deshonne Redeaux remains my pick for the starter.
  • Riley Wormley and Shahn Alston also in the mix.

Other Observations

  • Tanook Hines was back practicing with no setbacks after returning the previous day.
  • Individual periods featured offensive and defensive lines working specific techniques (including splitting double teams).
  • Strong player-coaching culture visible — upperclassmen and starters (examples included Jahkeem Stewart coaching up Floyd Boucard) actively teaching technique to teammates during drills.
  • Overall intensity and physicality continue to rise as the season opener (San Jose State) approaches. Feels like the team is flipping the switch into game-week mode.

Post-Practice Interviews

Spoke with Prophet Brown, Floyd Boucard, Zuriah Fisher, and RJ Sermons.

Prophet Brown

  • Happy to be healthy and available after missing all of last season.
  • Emphasized versatility — can play corner, nickel, or safety.
  • Enjoying the defensive system under Gary Patterson and Paul Gonzalez.

Zuriah Fisher

  • Highlighted the growth of younger players in the room from spring to fall.
  • Specifically called out Simote Katoanga’s development.
  • Room has good depth.

RJ Sermons (first media availability as a redshirt freshman)

  • Legacy player who is focused on building his own legacy.
  • Strong relationship with Coach Reed.
  • Talked about how tight-knit the position room feels.

Looking Ahead

  • Lincoln Riley Zoom/media availability on Thursday.
  • Official depth chart expected soon.
  • Season opener is roughly 10 days away.
  • This was the last chance for media to watch individual/stretching periods on the field this year.

Clean, focused practice with the right guys getting back healthy at the right time. Intensity is climbing exactly when it should.

Fight On.
