USC Trojans Shut Up The Doubters, Proved That West Coast Isn’t ‘Soft’

Michigan and its fans had a lot to say before Saturday’s matchup against the USC Trojans at the Coliseum. After the game, they were completely silenced as the USC Trojans blew out Michigan 31-13.

Sherrone Moore started the fire early in the week, dissing the USC fans, saying, “It’ll be sold out, but it’s only sold out because Michigan is coming.”

Sherrone Moore’s comments clearly motivated USC fans as Trojan fans filled up the Coliseum with their highest attendance in years.

Some fans were saying they had not seen the stadium that loud since the Pete Carroll National Championship days back in 2005.

Sherrone Moore was not the only one from Michigan who was talking trash before the game; loud-mouth Barstool CEO and proud Michigan alum Dave Portnoy was talking major smack about USC and West Coast football in general.

When asked on a scale of 1 to 10 how much he respected USC, Portnoy responded by saying:

“I put my respect level for USC and their program at a 3 out of 10. I think they’re West Coast, soft. Lincoln Riley is a soft coach who runs a soft program. I’ll always take the Midwest power football.”

Portnoy seems to forget that West Coast football is the home of some of the toughest football players in NFL history, including guys like Ronnie Lott, Larry Allen, Anthony MuΓ±oz, Junior Seau, John Elway, Aaron Rodgers, and his all-time favorite player, Tom Brady.

Respect the West Coast because it is not debatable; no state has produced better football players than California.

USC Trojans Represented The West Coast Well

The USC Trojans showed just how tough they can be as they dominated Michigan in the trenches, opening holes for 3rd string walk-on running back King Miller to rush for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Michigan struggled to move the ball all game. Lincoln Riley responded to the noise about being labeled a soft football team after the game, telling NBC Sports: “That was awesome, we were a physical ass Big 10 team tonight, I know that… We just were not gonna be denied.”

Former Heisman trophy and 2-time national championship USC QB Matt Leinart responded to his Fox Sports colleague after the game with a video of his own, saying, “This was a big win for the program and Lincoln Riley, they needed to prove they could win a game like this in the trenches and out-physical a good football team… West Coast football was pretty good tonight.”

As Leinart mentioned, the USC Trojans will have to beat another good team next week on the road against its heated rival, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

For once, USC let their play do the talking on the field and silenced the haters who disrespected not only their program, but the West Coast as a whole. USC stood up for the West Coast and made all of us in California proud.

Oh, and in case you were wondering how a hard-nose Midwest team prepares for a “soft” West Coast school, this video should give you a great insight into their preparation.
