A Surprise Candidate Emerges In UCLA Bruins’ Coaching Search

Washington head coach Jedd Fisch is quickly becoming a name to watch in the UCLA Bruins‘ head coaching search, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Fisch’s history with the program makes the connection obvious. He served as UCLA’s offensive coordinator in 2017 and stepped in as interim head coach after Jim Mora was fired, guiding the Bruins to bowl eligibility with a win over Cal. Now, eight years later, he’s built one of the better reputations in college football as a developer of quarterbacks and program rebuilder.

Jedd Fisch Would Be A UCLA Bruins Dream Hire

Since then, Fisch has climbed steadily. He spent time on Sean McVay’s Rams staff as a senior offensive assistant and assistant offensive coordinator, worked as the Patriots’ quarterbacks coach under Bill Belichick, and rebuilt Arizona into a 10-win team before taking the Washington job in 2024. He’s 10-8 so far with the Huskies, including a 4-1 start this season, and earning $7.75 million annually.

Fisch’s resume is built on offense and adaptability. His teams play fast, and he’s shown an ability to modernize systems around his personnel. That flexibility could appeal to UCLA, a program that needs an identity reset after years of inconsistency under Chip Kelly and a brief DeShaun Foster tenure that ended quickly.

He’s also familiar with Southern California recruiting and the expectations around UCLA’s program. Fisch’s ties to McVay and the Rams add credibility, and his Big Ten experience now fits the UCLA Bruins’ new conference reality.

While other names will surface, Fisch’s track record at multiple levels and his previous UCLA connection make him one of the most logical targets on the board.
