The UCLA Bruins may not be the team that first comes to mind when you think about the new age of college football (unless you are a Bruins fan, of course), but they are a program that continues to build momentum as we head into fall camp.
Recruiting began to fall dormant under head coach Chip Kelly. Those days appear to be over with DeShaun Foster at the helm.
The UCLA Bruins just earned another huge recruiting win with the commitment of defensive lineman Carter Gooden.
Carter Gooden Commits To UCLA Bruins
Gooden’s rankings across the recruiting sites are quite polarizing.
On3/Rivals has him ranked as the 20th defensive lineman and the 268th overall player, while 247 Sports ranks him as the 9th DL and the 69th overall player in the 2026 class.

Regardless of the discrepancy, this is another huge get for DeShaun Foster and the Bruins. UCLA now has 23 total commitments and holds the 19th-ranked class, per 247 Sports Composite.
Coach Foster has certainly prioritized the trenches in this class. Gooden is more of an EDGE, but he joins four other defensive linemen. So far, here is how that room will look:
- Carter Goodwin – EDGE, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Anthony Jones – DL, ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- David Schwerzel, DL ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Yahya Gaad, DL ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Marcus Almada, DL ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Surprisingly, Foster and the Bruins have actually recruited at a much higher clip out of state for this class, versus trying to hit the home tracks hard. This does, however, demonstrate that the UCLA National brand is still very much alive and well.
